Nowadays, there is a growing concern about whether countries should produce enough food for their population rather than importing it from every corner of the world. I firmly agree because transportation of a wide range of food can be unhealthy, and lead to diminished production of local products.
On the one hand, imported food is not always healthy. First and foremost, when people transport products from one country to another, food loses all its vitamins and healthy nutrients. Because in most cases, food is transported in freezers, and frozen products do not have any healthy nutrients. Moreover, some of the food transported a lot of bacteria and diseases. It leads to several incurable illnesses, not only because of bacteria but also because fruits and vegetables do not contain enough vitamins to strengthen people’s immune systems. Hence, the only thing to maintain people’s health is pills that sometimes have many side effects.
On the other hand, producing sufficient food for the population plays a crucial role in decreasing competition between stores. To begin, today, locally grown vegetables and fruits are losing their place in markets as more international products appear. Consequently, it badly affects the production of local products because farmers will stop producing as they do not gain any profit from their production. So, it, of course, loses the chance of being competitive and the overall price of products will grow, as the reason for being imported, and not having other competitors at all. Finally, all the areas that are dedicated to plantation will be replaced with residential or commercial purposes.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that countries should invest more in the production of local products instead of spending on imported ones, as they are not as healthy and nutritious as locally grown food.
