I woke up hearing the wind whistle. It was freezing outside the igloo. I wore my parka and came out. Snow was everywhere. Couldn’t see anything but thick fog. My people were trying to make some fire, so I decided to go for a walk to take some firewood. As I drove my dog sled alone through the thick forest, I heard noises. At first, I thought it was wolves trying to find some food. But then I realized that’s people, saying some strange words and talking foreign language. It was unexpected to meet another tribe on a usual day. They tried to explain what caused their wandering. As they said strangers with weird appearance came, took their land and are looking forward to get the other tribes. Those who came said that foreigners have the strongest weapon they’ve ever seen, that could destroy anything and anyone in a moment. Everyone listening were terrified. The tribal leader told us to stay calm and be ready to protect themselves. I couldn’t believe what I just heard until I saw the thing that confirms everything they said, their horrified faces – those faces that have witnessed the death.
Everyone was trying to do something after hearing the frightening news. Some of us went hunting to feed our uninvited guests, some were too terrified so they decided to leave our land and others, like me, went on reconnaissance. I was alone again. I was sure no one was near, the only thing I could hear is my footsteps on a snow. And suddenly a branch snapped in the forest, breaking the silence—a clear sign that someone was nearby. “Come out and tell what you want from us” I shouted. A man came out from behind the tree. I pointed my harpoon at him. He started saying some incomprehensible words trying to testify himself. After he realized I couldn’t understand him he took something out of his pocket. That was a nervous moment for me and I thought it was the end. He pulled out some perfectly shaped, round stone. And when he turned it over to face me, I saw some dark-skinned, long-haired man with narrow eyes. Initially, I was scared of this thing thinking the man was trapped in that magical item. Finally, I recognized myself and was stunned of this invention that allows me to see myself distinctly. The inspiring thoughts of human possibilities kept distracting me from the reality. I threw my weapon away and started to examine the stranger. We sat and he kept showing unbelievably impressive creations. He seemed kind showing everything he had. Then I decided to present him our handmade tools.
After all the curiousness disappeared, I questioned myself “Who is this guy?”. He’s still the enemy the other tribe warned us about. I felt mistrust and frustration in myself due to being to confiding. I made a decision to come back to my tribe and act as if nothing happened. I was sure those thoughtful and caring people would teach us everything they know and introduce us the future. I was wrong. My hopes were waste of time. They were cruel and ruthless. I lost my family and trust in people.
