In this day and age, many metropolitan cities still have a significant number of offenders. In this essay, I intend to discuss the causes of this trend as well as how to tackle it rapidly.
Surprisingly, crimes mainly stem from financial deprivation and the lack of opportunities among adults. In economically disadvantaged communities, many individuals struggle to seek stable employment and enhance income to support themselves or their families. As a result, some are likely to engage in illegal activities such as theft, robbery or even drug trafficking to quickly become wealthy. This issue is particularly evident in certain slums in Mexico, where limited job opportunities and economic hardships have drastically contributed to higher levels of lawbreaking. Furthermore, the weakness of legal systems in some regions has also been considered a factor. As laws are not deterrent enough or punishments are too lenient, criminals tend not to fear the consequences they could face after committing crime. Thereby, this might give rise to repeated offences and dramatically contribute to the overall rise in delinquency.
In order to tackle these phenomena, I believe we must address its root causes. At the heart of the matter is that ameliorating access to education and vocational training can offer individuals available career opportunities so that reducing the likelihood they will turn to crime. Additionally, once they acquire practical, professional skills and qualifications, they are more capable of securing a stable life with greater income. Another solution is from the government, since they could implement stricter law enforcement and more effective measures of controlling criminals. For instance, the authorities in El Salvador established CECOT prison, which is high-security and helped rapidly reduce gang-related offenders within the country.
By way of conclusion, increasing crime rates are mainly due to poverty and weak legal systems. Nonetheless, with stronger policies and better educational possibilities, this problem might be effectively handled.
