Unconventional medicinal techniques are becoming increasingly prevalent. Despite their popularity, most of the methods of alternative medicine have been proven to be ineffective, with some being inherently dangerous. While there are arguments for the acceptance of such measures, I believe them to be mainly nonsensical.
It cannot be denied that health is one of the most important human resources. Physical and mental welfare are far more important than most conventional pleasures. A plethora of people treasure their health, aiming to strengthen their mind and body. However, when standard procedures do not seem to work, individuals resort to alternative medicine, such as osteopathy and aromatherapy, for example. While many of these methods have scientifically been proven to be futile, alternative medicine may serve a different purpose – providing a placebo effect. This “delusion” often affects people’s health positively, having an especially significant impact on their mental state. When one believes to be going through actual medical procedures, their belief in themselves strengthens, and this change in mindset plays a part in their recovery.
Nevertheless, I believe indulging in alternative medicine to be detrimental to yourself. Going through procedures that have not yet been medically approved is incredibly risky. Many people simply lack the knowledge of what the unconventional method actually consists of. This makes one vulnerable to systems that aim to scam people, by taking their money and wasting precious time. Furthermore, being administered non-approved medicine can be harmful, as there are reasons for why such techniques are not approved. Thus, going through with such unconventional ways of healing may actually harm you, instead of improving your health. I strongly insist on participating only in procedures that have proven to be medically viable and beneficial.
Overall, while there is a benefit of alternative medicine in providing a placebo effect, its risks greatly overshadow its benefits. Because it is so risky, I believe unconventional medicine to be dangerous.
