Some people believe that zoos should be prohibited as it brings adverse risks for animals. Other individuals opine that zoos are indispensable tool for protecting animals. In this essay I will shed light on both viewpoints and give my opinion that zoos are a chance for a brighter future.
On the one hand, there are two main reasons why people consider zoos cruel and unnecessary. First and foremost, animals in zoos are kept in captivity. Staying in a cage for a long time, animals can be bored, stressed and depressed. Resultantly, it may affect animals’ mental and physical health as well, as they will be reluctant to move or show any signs of active lifestyle. Secondly, in order to keep animals under the control, many caretakers beat them and force them to adhere certain rules. As a result, animals always have thoughts about escaping this environment and live in their own habitat.
On the other hand, I believe that zoos are crucial for manifold reasons. Although it restricts freedom for animals, they do not have to suffer from starvation and diseases.Caretakers provide animals with food on a regular basis. Taking care of animals and cure them is also the responsibilities of zoos. Additionally, zoos ensure the diversity of animals and try to minimise the extinction of rare species. They carry out experiments for increasing the population of some animals. After reaching desired level they release animals to their own habitat. They greatly contribute to diversity of animals and protect them from external dangers like predators and hunters.
In conclusion, while it is understandable why people consider zoos cruel due to restriction of freedom and serious mental diseases, I support the existence of zoos, since the play a vital role to preserving the variety of animals and ensuring their safety.
