Some people argue that the government should prohibit experimenting on animals for the advancement of the medical field and any other reasons. Others believe that these kinds of experiments should continue to exist. In my opinion, the government should not place any limitations or prohibitions on these researches as it contributes to less financial burden and faster progress.
On the one hand, there are two main reasons why people believe that these experiments ought to be banned. The major reason is that it will be less time-consuming. This is because researchers can solely focus on experimenting with humans. In addition, due to this directness, the scientists do not have to think of what changes are needed between the experiments with animals and that with humans, making it more efficient. Another reason for this view is that some experts might be more careless when testing on animals. This is mainly because the laws regarding animals are not as strict as humans. For instance, scientists faced greater consequences such as having to pay a fine and getting arrested in extreme cases if they have done something wrong in experiments involving human subjects.
Despite the above argument, I am of the opinion that the government should not interfere with these experiments. One reason for my position is that testing on animals will cost less for organizers and experts in particular fields. Human test subjects are more costly than animals, especially in high-risk and large scale tests. In some cases, the organizers have to provide food and drinks when experimenting for a long period of time, contributing to a larger cost. A further reason for my opinion is that scientific research will be more productive, leading to faster progress. In human experiments, administrators have to set a fixed schedule and also persuade random people to be involved. Sometimes, due to a variety of personal reasons, those test subjects can not come to testing sites, delaying and disrupting the progress. This is not the case in animal experiments as they are kept in testing sites.
In conclusion, while both views are commonly held in society, I strongly believe that testing the safety of products and development of medicines using animals should exist since these experiments lead to further progress and lesser cost. Given this situation, it is crucial that the government should pass certain safety laws while allowing researchers to use animals.
