The escalating global necessity for fuels such as oil and gas has resulted in discovering those non-renewables in unspoiled, far flung areas. While this development can significantly benefit the economic prosperity of many countries, creating sufficient sources to meet their fuel demand, the disadvantage of exploiting ecosystems and destroying natural habitats for certain species can lead to more severe impacts like climate change. Personally, I believe that the major drawbacks from this attempt can largely offset its benefits, resulting in a more intense condition for the planet.
The most frequently cited advantage for initiatives of locating fuel sources in distant areas is the economic improvement by meeting global needs for those sources. For example, a country like the United States would prefer finding local fuels sources rather than relying on Middle East countries like Saudi Arabia. Likewise, other countries in Europe are better willing to have their own natural resources in order to make the most profits. A great example of this can be seen in China, which has substantial textile, electronic and automobile factories in the world. China is currently operating these industries while largely relying on local non renewable sources to drive its economic engine. Overall, this global trend can facilitate many nations to recover from their economic deficits and accelerate their efforts to enter the world market.
Despite this advantage, the negative outcomes of this can make significant responsibilities on many communities. China, for instance, is famous for its wide range of business industries while intensively facing the downsides from its booming economy, resulting in local negative climate impacts such as storms and floods over decades. This similar pattern can be seen in other countries like the United States, in which the nation’s air population increases annually, leading to public health concerns. Besides, finding these resources poses a serious threat to the biodiversity, effecting negatively on certain species by spoiling their ecosystems and natural habitats. The techniques like deforestation, mining, digging and drilling oil and gas to untouched natural environments can extensively clear particular species. One great example of this is the Amazon rainforest which was detrimentally impacted by human activities in the past.
In conclusion, whereas the benefits of this improvement can bring economic prosperities internationally, the negative impacts on the environment can result in more severe conditions and heavier burdens. Therefore, in my opinion, rather than focusing on degrading natural systems, the world should leave them unspoiled.
