Significant growth of global population is leading us to the development of vertical cities. Vertical cities offer pronounced benefits including, less pollution, space efficiency and convenience. On the other hand, horizontal cities also facilitate inhabitants with access to green spaces and less congested areas. I believe, everything has some merits and de-merits but I will prefer vertical city to live due to a lot of services at one place.
Vertical cities are outracing the horizontal ones in the current era. Vertical city consists upon a tall building and it has numerous potential benefits; such as, it allows a large number of people to live in a small area with many services. It includes mixed-use buildings with residential, commercial and recreational spaces within a same structure. It has a significant impact on controlling pollution, because due to the availability of certain services at one place there is no need of extensive travel. It also decreases the need of extensive infrastructure. Since the world’s population has reached above eight billion, housing has become the major concern globally. For instance, in many European countries few vacant places are left for residential purpose. One of the possible solutions for this issue is establishment of the high-rise buildings.
Conversely, people living in horizontal cities has more access to green spaces and less congested environment. They are less prone to mental health issues like anxiety and stress due to less dense surrounding.
To summarize, skyscraper is the need of present era due to its potential benefits; like, efficient land use and improved accessibility.
