The use of chemicals in the creation and processing of our food as well as the way to keep them preserved have been extended in the last decades. Some people believe that there are danger associated. In this essay will explain that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
Thanks to some chemicals we are able to produce more food that we ever been in our history. And thanks to the massive production of our food we’ve been able to reduce world hunger to to a minimal, even if we still have room for improvement. In 3rd world countries hunger is not yet a thing of the past but thanks to some pesticides and fertilizers the amount of food produced has helped millions of people. Using preservatives has also helped in the amount of food that doesn’t go to waste. By using some of those substances of food can last from just days to even months. Before, the time since the food was collected or processed until it was no longer acceptable for consumption was very short or the methods changed vastly the flavour, like using huge amounts of salt.
The reason that some people believe that some chemicals are dangerous is because there are some that really are but most of them are not. And to make sure that there are not chemicals harmful for us we have institutions that mandate strict regulations about the type and amount used in food. In the USA those controls are much laxer than in the EU that’s why there are American food that can not be imported to Europe.
In conclusion, if we have strict controls over the use of chemicals in the food we can produce and preserve more and use it to help with world hunger.
