The Invention of Television
Televisions are probably one of the most important inventions humanity has made. They caused a huge change in people’s daily lives. They allowed us to have a lot more fun with a lot less communication.
Today, there is a large variety of content on television; from soap operas to documentaries, and thrill-filled TV series to reality shows. We can explore the depths of the oceans or the highest point of Mount Everest. We can be a part of different fictional families or friend groups. We can feel the fear a cop would have in a live-or-die situation. As a whole, television is the biggest supporter of escapism. If one wants to escape the stress and harsh nature of reality, television is the way out of it.
All of us, at one point, wanted to escape the reality of our universe, so we turned our televisions on and watched the shows we liked and found some relief. However, most people loved the relief and held onto the televisions even harder. Sitting on comfortable sofas and watching TV without saying a single word is a common scene in most people’s lives. The studios, writers, and producers are working harder than ever to make their shows even more addictive. That is how they make money, chaining more people to their sofas for longer periods.
In conclusion, if we want to blame someone for the lack of communication, that is not television. Television, being a great invention, is just a tool made for us. The balance between watching TV completely silently and communicating with our loved ones is in our hands to keep.
