The living situation for students varies in most countries. Some prefer to live at home with their family while some choose to stay in universities.
In my opinion, I think that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages for students living away from home during university. First of all, students learn to be more independent as they live away from home. They are forced to make their own decisions in their daily lives. These decisions include meal time and other simple things. For example, that student can decide on the dinner timing compared to a student living at home with their family.
Additionally, students who live away from home tend to be more focused in their studies. This is due to having less distractions in university. They get to focus on themselves and not think of doing household chores. I can relate to this situation as I lived in my university hostel rather than staying at home. I was able to fully concentrate during my revision sessions. It is also proven by my exam results where I have scored high marks for most of the subjects taught in my university.
There are some drawbacks to living away from home. It has a slightly negative influence on mental health. This is due to the students feeling homesick and not having a strong support system. Other than that, there is a financial strain factor due to be considered. Students whol live away from home tend to spend more compared to those living at home. They have to spend on accomodation fees and their own meals.
To sum up, the good points of living away from home are superior to the bad points. It increases independence and focus.
