Older people are encouraged to exercise more frequently by doctors, but they actually do not do enough. The reason for this issue can be the unsuitable environment surrounding it. In this essay, I will discuss the reasons and the solution as well.
Initially, the physical and environmental obstacles can be the reason to preserve elderly people doing exercise. When people regularly do not stay in good condition such as tired, illness and get pain when being active, they cannot do exercise or even less active like walking or yoga, because of the pain and weakness of groups of muscles. In addition, environmental factors such as pollution or crowded infrastructure cannot provide adequate safety for them to do exercise. Especially, pollution in the atmosphere or noise pollution make elderly people feel uncomfortable to do outdoor activities, while the indoor facilities may not be ensured adequate space. Moreover, going outside under polluted air will cause more diseases or even make the disease more extreme instead of improving current health condition.
However, if the government can enhance the infrastructure or release more policies related to the health of people, we can promote older people to do more activities having benefits for their health. Firstly, by building or repairing the old community and social space such as parks, the grounds of apartments can enlarge and bring more opportunities for not only old people but also society to do sporty activity. Older people regularly prefer going to have their peers, so that community spaces such as parks can promote them relatively. Additionally, policies related to priority of elderly people in several public services or sport competitions also drive to a better awareness of exercise through awarding prizes, having discounts in healthcare services, which will attract more attention and stimulate people to participate more in exercise.
In conclusion, although there are a number of objective reasons from the environment and adequate infrastructure, I still believe that the government can still achieve this by applying more beneficial policies for older people.
