Nowadays, in certain countries, many local businesses face an issue of closing down their small business because of the significant expansion of supermarkets which they simply cannot compete with. As a result, local communities might disappear. I definitely disagree with this trend.
One major reason I disagree is that rapid expansion of supermarkets is one of the notable signs of modernization which is extremely beneficial for society. This can also make people’s life more convenient and efficient. Moreover, it may also save time if we can find supermarkets everywhere which suits busy lifestyles. For example, nowadays, many people are busier with their studies and works, and do not have enough time to cook or may not want to spend time preparing food. Therefore, having majority of supermarkets and convenient stores make lives more essential.
Another reason I disagree is that although this may not force some local supermarkets to close and not necessarily destroy local communities because the closure of local business is directly associate with their customer services, marketing and unavailability of products. For instance, if their customer services are good and they have a wide variety of products, it is a great way to attract the potential customers and many people willing to buy products from them. Therefore, the reason for closing the small, local business generally depend on themselves.
To conclude the discussion, even the increasing number of supermarkets is considered as a reason of closing the small stores, it can not directly bring about the death of local communities.
