It is the fact that an increase in the number of vehicles is detrimental to the world’s temperature, which in turn has negative impacts on the environment. This essay will discuss cars purchasing motivations, including their convenience and less travel costs, and then propose practices, such as increasing tax on cars and subsidizing public transports, that can restrain this issue.
The reason why people buying cars is that it is more convenient than other transports. It is obvious that people who have their own cars can go wherever they want. Additionally, travel costs including fuel and parking would be less than other transportation fares. In other ways, some cities have limited availability of other transport means to travel resulting to people have unreasonable fares to pay. For example, more than 60% of people living in Bangkok have their own cars and use them as the main ways to commute despite the crowded traffic.
Although the purchasing vehicles tends to increase, there are possible ways to regulate this behavior. Firstly, the governments should impose more tax on motor vehicles. The more it is expensive, the less people purchase. For instance, the consumptions on sweet beverages have dramatically declined by 50% after the Ministry of food imposed more tax on sugar. Secondly, subsidizing the public transportations could be supported by the governments. If people can pay less fare, they will be encouraged to use more public transportations, allowing the decrease in owning their cars.
In conclusion, although having your own car would be beneficial for convenience and costs, it would harm to overall world’s environment. However, levying on car taxes and supporting public transports fares by governments would prevent the overuse of motor vehicles.
