It is certainly true that the use of e-mail has a huge impact on professional and social communication. It facilitates contact between people. However, I believe that not all effects of this innovation have been positive, although there are some disadvantages.
There are several drawbacks to using e-mail. A common criticism of e-mail in the workplace is that it causes extra work and stress. This is because employees receive a large number of messages in a day. These may be work or social messages. Thus, employees need more time to check all messages. Another negative aspect is that e-mail senders expect they will receive answers early, which leads to more pressure on employees. Moreover, employees’ computers may face some viruses due to e-mail messages.
Despite these negative effects, however, e-mail has brought important benefits as well. One obvious advantage of using e-mail is that it is a fast and easy way to communicate with families, friends, and work colleagues. Additionally, e-mail is considered a cheap way of communication. Another positive effect is that it not only allows people to communicate with each other but also allows them to send and receive all kinds of information such as pictures, text, videos, diagrams, etc. Moreover, electronic mail is widely used.
To sum up, while there are many obvious drawbacks to using e-mail, this fast and ever-friendly technology has greatly improved our lives and facilitates communications both professionally and socially. It seems to me that e-mail has brought us more benefits than advantages.
