To some people, languages are as important as their cultures. However, some languages cannot survive long as they are not used as any formal means of communication but are rather used as inter-cultural dialects between families of the same locations. Languages like English, Spanish, and Chinese, which are used across multiple countries have a greater chance of survival as they are used for communications with different nations officially and culturally. In my opinion, I agree that life will be easier with fewer languages and dialects around the world.
People believe that languages are an important part of cultures and how they can co-exist in nations with multiple official languages, India being an apt example, which hosts more than 40 official dialects. These bring about a sense of belonging within the people of that particular culture. Having a coded language can also help armies of one nation transmit messages without other nations being able to interpret them correctly.
In contrast, a uniform mode of communication between multiple nations makes it easier for official cross-border communications, along with helping nations maintain harmonious relationships between themselves. For instance, English being the most common form of communication across the world makes it easier for countries like the U.K., and Australia to maintain peace with their ally nations. Fewer languages also means the removal of language barriers for students wanting better higher education or professionals seeking advanced career opportunities in nations away from their homes. This is where hundreds of thousands of people such as myself, would incline towards having fewer languages in the world.
In conclusion, I believe that having fewer languages can bring about better opportunities for people, more harmony across nations, and fewer disputes between cultures.
