As time progresses many languages are disappearing. Some people believe that it is not something to be worried about as few languages worldwide will make life easier.
Fewer languages word wide means that communication becomes easier and any educational or research material becomes more accessible as there is more acceptance and more recognition of fewer languages across the world. If there are few languages worldwide, there are chances that people are familiar with most of them so this reduces communication barriers and makes it easy for people to connect without the need of any translators or interpreters. For example, if a person is familiar with majority of the few languages and he is travelling anywhere in the world it will become very easier for him to speak and understand the local language or one common language known by everyone there. Moreover, any educational and search material, articles and books become relevant for greater number of people across the world. People will have more access to the resources worldwide and there is greater chance of knowledge sharing amongst people worldwide. In short fewer languages lead to globalization.
On the contrary, many languages vanishing means many cultures are disappearing, there is loss of diversity and there is social and emotional isolation. Every language has its own uniqueness and if any language dies out then it reduces the element of diversity worldwide. This means that the concept of diversity will dilute in every sense. People may no longer be open to accepting other cultures, traditions and languages that few people may still be adapting. Furthermore, with languages disappearing many cultures will also die out. Therefore, people whose culture becomes extinct may no longer feel sense of belonging and they may feel socially and emotionally isolated.
In conclusion, it is evident that life becomes easier with few languages as communication barriers reduce and any knowledge resource is widely accepted and utilized. However, greater number of languages vanishing means many cultures and traditions are lost, the diversity and uniqueness is lost and people feel socially isolated. Since fewer languages will create a globally interconnected world steps should be taken to make people adopt to few languages.
