The increasing amount of waste nowadays has become a serious environmental issue. Some concerned parties think the solution to this problem is by supporting people to use fewer products instead of using the recycling method. This essay would side those who are in the first view.
Recycling might be a suitable way to deal with waste. Having said that, the process that should be undergoing is also very complex and time-consuming. Firstly, the procedure of finding the trash, collecting them, and reprocessing them into something ready to use not only requires a lot of energy but also a piece of proper equipment. The availability of human resources and financial support are two important factors that should be borne in mind. Secondly, the length of the process itself might take a long time due to the amount of steps involved in the processing phase.
On the other hand, persuading people to be less consuming will be easier to do and more beneficial. Compared to the complexity offered by the recycling method, all that is needed in this second approach is more simple. Encouraging people to be more minimalist can be done through campaigns, advertisements, or simply by using social media. It is cheaper and saves time. Furthermore, recycling without having to educate people about the effects of their consuming behavior could be useless because it does not solve the roots of the problem. Hence, supporting people to maintain a less consuming lifestyle will be more useful in terms of reducing the possible trash to be produced.
To sum up, even though the key method for solving the rubbish is still argued, I believe that inspiring people to consume less is more effective because it is effortless and useful, compared to using a recycling way, which is more complicated.
