Recent studies suggest that in order to maintain a long healthy life, elderly people should allocate sufficient time exercising and socializing with others. Unfortunately, due to several factors, many old people are spending their time alone without maintaining a healthy level of exercise.
In many societies, when children reach 18 years old they leave their parents house due to several reasons, such as; completing an educational degree or start a career. This raises the problem of leaving older people to live alone. Another cause to this problem, is the high number of divorces which leaves people living separately. Needless to say, loneliness triggers the second problem which is the lack of sufficient activity. Exercise is widely known to better be spent with someone, for instance, signing up for a running club keeps individuals accountable to keep going. In contrast, having to go for a run alone is hard to maintain.
Solution to this worrying problems would be for families to keep in touch with their parents as they are growing older, perhaps, live with them in same house. If siblings kept living with their parents they will eventually stop suffering from loneliness. For instance, in our society, parents are never kept alone, at least one sibling should be responsible to live with them and provide them care and love. Additionally, same solution applies to overcome lack of exercise, children can keep their parents occupied with daily activities in the house as well as keeping them accountable to do exercises. For example, considering my parents, I motivated them to sign up for workout centers and gifted them intelligent watches to keep track of their daily activities.
In summary, problems such as loneliness and lack of fitness are widely common between older generations. However, with easy steps the issues can be easily solved. With sufficient care and love for older parents they will be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
