In recent days, many seniors have experienced a sense of isolation and do not exercise adequately. Some people argue that engaging in daily social interactions and exercise improves the mental and physical health of elderly citizens. From my perspective, there are numerous reasons behind this occurrence, and several solutions should be adopted to solve these problems.
The advancement in technology has resulted in fewer visits from friends and family. Many seniors feel lonely, and this can have an impact on their mental health. In the old days, mobile phones were not widely available, so people had to visit their friends and family directly. Nowadays, communication is mostly done through social media, which means that face-to-face interaction is not possible. As a result, people do not receive the same level of mental support. Additionally, friends and relatives now live in different places, and there is not the same level of connection as before.
However, there are a variety of solutions that people can apply to solve these drawbacks. One solution is for family members to arrange frequent trips to see their parents and friends, as this is the easiest and fastest way to communicate with the elderly. Additionally, the government should organize more public events for elderly people. Many of them lack happiness because they rarely have a chance to socialize. This can be achieved by creating clubs and sporting events that specifically target senior citizens To illustrate, the Kerala government introduced the ‘Pakalveedu Program’. It is meant for elderly people. This platform allows elderly people to come together and have a good quality time. The prime focus of this association is to improve physical and mental support, as well as emotional support. These programs enhance mutual understanding, contact, and friendship among the members. The government should organize various activities such as yoga, physical fitness training programs, memory therapy, and periodic medical checkups.
In conclusion, family members should engage in face-to-face communication. Young people should assess the elderly’s priorities and provide mental and physical support. This helps to focus on their needs and create programs and events. We should cooperate with their daily routines
