Fast food constitutes a significant part of people’s diet in many parts of the world. It is, however, argued that it is harmful for one’s lifestyle and diet, and I hold the same view.
Admittedly, the consumption of fast food can aid one’s lifestyle and diet in some respects. Its apparent convenience in terms of its price and short preparation time makes it an appealing choice for those to whom cooking is not an option due to their busy work schedule and tight school deadlines. In this respect, people can seamlessly opt out of cooking and free up more time in their day for work and studies. Furthermore, fast food helps meet one’s fitness goals. Since fast food is rich in calories, it provides a cheap dietary solution to people as well as athletes who are looking to gain weight to build more muscle.
Notwithstanding, in my view, fast food is generally an unhealthy substitute to natural food options. This is because it compromises one’s physical fitness and health. Being rich in fats and carbohydrates, fast food leads to unhealthy weight gains and slow metabolism, which are two main underlying causes of obesity and diabetes. These chronic conditions, in turn, undermine one’s quality of life and possibly reduce their lifespan. Additionally, fast food consumption is often accompanied by other bad habits. Because it is convenient to make and carry, people spend time saved on cooking on watching TV or doom-scrolling on social media. This, invariably, gives rise to a sedentary lifestyle, which is another cause of poor health.
In conclusion, granted, fast food can prove a convenient solution to those who prefer to have a work-oriented lifestyle or wish to gain weight instantly to reach their target body shape, but I strongly believe that it damages people’s health through chronic conditions and a sedentary lifestyle.
