Nowadays, more people prefer writing digitally, rather than writing by hand. It happened because technology has replaced handwriting, and writing digitally is considered to be more convenient in everyday use. I believe this change has more positive effects, since it is more efficient and accessible.
One key reason why handwriting is declining in its popularity is because digital technology is developing rapidly and replacing traditional writing. People use smartphones, tablets, and laptops for almost everything, including writing their notes and thoughts. They find it more convenient as storing information digitally is easier to access, edit, and share instantly. Even modern education and workplaces prioritise digital skills. Schools increasingly require typed assignments, and usually give homework through digital platforms, which influences students to write digitally. At work, similarly, people use email and write documents online which also requires digital writing skills.
I believe writing digitally has more benefits. The most noteworthy one is its high efficiency: typing saves time as on digital documents you can easily edit without rewriting everything. For example businesses communicate through emails and shared online documents, making work much easier. It is convenient to have all of your notes in a single folder that could be shared with several devices, so that you could access them from anywhere easily. Furthermore, typing is more accessible for people with poor handwriting or physical disabilities, as they may find typing much easier. Digital notes are more organisable and can be backed up in case of any problems. This is especially relevant for university students who can organise thousands of lecture notes in one laptop instead of carrying dozens of notebooks.
In conclusion, although less people prefer handwriting due to the development of technologies, it has positive effects for people who have difficulties with writing manually and for those who want their notes to stay organised.
