Every year, more and more people use gadgets instead of reading books. Several reasons can explain this trend. The first reason is that gadgets are always available. In particular, the young generation has used digital entertainment from childhood. However, these issues might be solved by using technology positively and introducing books earlier.
One major reason is that we can use our phones or iPads at any time we want. Moreover, short-form video on platforms such as TikTok or Instagram becomes a habit. This might be solved if people would use devices in the right way, i.e., reading books online or listening to audiobooks, because many people are spending a lot of time watching. For instance, after a hard day, instead of watching short videos, reading books would be better, because it can reduce stress and also develop critical thinking.
Another important factor is that we have used digital entertainment since we were kids. As a consequence, children find reading books tedious, or they may not develop a reading habit. Therefore, if children are not introduced to books early, they are less likely to enjoy reading later. That means if parents and schools set a limit on devices, then children would have more free time to read books.
In conclusion, there are a lot of reasons why people would prefer using digital entertainment instead of reading books, such as short content becoming a habit and children spending a lot of time with gadgets. However, using smartphones and other types of gadgets positively and setting limits can provide practical solutions.
