Now a days, it is generally believed by some schools that focusing on improving student’s handwriting is beneficial. However, in my analysis, I find that there are more advantages than disadvantages. In this essay, I will attempt to present some constructive and few negative aspects of this trend.
To begin with, there are multiple merits of learning and paying attention on handwriting skill. One of them is cognitive and memory benefits; it can be greatly beneficial to individual and society. For instance, writing by hand forces the brain to summarize and synthesize information in real time rather than typing, It eventually enhances their conceptual understanding. Furthermore, it also be noted that those students who pays attention toward their handwriting have increased exam speed and easily elevates handwriting quality. Therefore, one need to consider how this can have a mindfulness effect in the long run.
In contrast, despite of its constructive side their drawbacks connot be overlooked in this regard. I would argue that by optimizing handwriting skill eradicates the marginalized digital literacy. Similarly, another thing to consider in this context is spiking up frustration level by mechanical focus. For example, when a student concentrates on stroke orders, baseline alignments, and a grip pressure, their memory become overwhelming. It seems to me these prospectives cannot be neglected and should be taken into consideration while judging pros and cons.
In conclusion, with the evidence demonstrated so far, I argued the fact by stating that making handwriting a focal point has both merits and demerits. Thus, we should weigh up numerous factors to determine the good and bad components of this trend.
