Band 8+: "Figures show that in some countries, there is an ever-increasing proportion of the population aged 15 or younger. How do you think this effect current status and the future of those countries?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The data illustrate that in particular countries there is a growing share of individuals who are 15 years old or younger. The main effect on the present is the straining of the educational system. While the future impact involves overpopulation because of the high-birth rate, which affects the environment as well.

The principal present effect is the fact that an increasing number of children need to receive a good-quality education, therefore there is a growing demand for schools and teachers. The more students attend schools, the more equipment should be bought to update school infrastructure. Furthermore, schools also need to introduce more professionally qualified teachers, who have to be prepared beforehand. As a result, governments should allocate more resources to the educational sphere that might seriously influence the country’s budget.

The impact on the future outlook is that urban areas become overcrowded because of a great number of people, which poses the risk of overpopulation. When the birth rate increases significantly, more space for living and different facilities, such as public transport are needed, therefore they become limited as providing such a large quantity of them is challenging for the government. What is more, air becomes more polluted and the quality of soil can deteriorate due to excessive use that might have harmful consequences for the environment.

To conclude, because of the rising proportion of the young generation, the educational provision is in high demand at present. While for the future perspective, this trend can lead to overpopulation and result in environmental degradation.
