There is no doubt that movies can be very educative for kids. However, the effect movies have on children is not always beneficial. In the following paragraphs, I am going to discuss both the positive and negative sides of this view and explain why this is not always a positive influence.
On the one hand, children can benefit massively from watching movies. They can be a source of entertainment, inspiration, and education. Movies help stimulate children’s minds and improve their imagination and language skills considerably. Some movies can also introduce children to various types of useful knowledge, usually shown in kid-friendly ways such as animation, fictional characters, talking animals, and superheroes, helping them to consume this information more easily. Therefore, if the suitable movies are watched, they can have a very positive influence on the child’s growth.
On the other hand, children can be negatively affected by unsuitable movies. Such movies often glamorize things like smoking, drinking, and fighting, and children are quick to pick up these habits. Furthermore, watching movies is sometimes addicting, which can hinder the development of healthy habits like exercising, reading, or spending time with their family. Children who are avid film viewers are also more likely to suffer from obesity-related problems throughout their lives. However, most of the negative effects mentioned above can be avoided if parents actively take part in choosing the movies their kids watch.
In conclusion, I believe that movies can have both positive and negative influence on a child’s development. Nevertheless, if children watch movies under their parents’s guidance, then the effect can be largely positive.
