Positive And Negative

Band 7+: Fossil fuel (e.g. coal, oil and natural gas) are the main source of energy in many countries. However, in some countries the use of alternative sources of energy (e.g. wind power and solar power) is encouraged. To what extend is this a positive of negative development.

A large number of nations around the world have relied on fossil fuel as their primary source of energy, while some are likely to make use of other resources such as wind and solar power. While acknowledging the reasons for this disparity, I strongly believe this is a positive development.

Admittedly, fossil fuels are prevalent in producing electricity in many countries worldwide thanks to their rich natural resources available. Some governments take the advantage of having abundant fossil fuels resources to export globally. For example, Russia, one of the most powerful countries, depends heavily on trading these sources of energy to develop its economy. However, many reports have shown that continuously excavating fossil fuels in these countries has led to the deprivation of coal, oil, and natural gas. This may raise the question of surviving when running out of these non-renewable resources.

Given that situation, I believe that the encouragement of using alternative resources in some nations is beneficial not only for human subsistence but also for the environment. First and foremost, wind and solar energy or wave power are renewable sources of energy, which can ensure our life in the future. Additionally, unlike fossil fuels which release contaminants into the environment, these are green energy sources, which can help protect our beautiful earth. Having said that, producing solar panels and wind turbines may be more costly than other non-renewable energy sources as it requires advanced technology engagement, preventing some developing or underdeveloped areas from widely utilizing these practices. Therefore, some developing areas or volunteering organizations should lend them a hand in providing necessary equipment.

In conclusion, given the exhaustion of fossil fuels around the world, investing in renewable resources is an optimal solution in the long run. Despite a few challenges that some areas may have to deal with, I believe governments could cooperate together to allow residents to adopt a sustainable and environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
