Band 7+: Globalisation has improved standards of living for many, but it has also widened the gap between the rich and the poor. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Globalization has undeniably transformed the world by fostering closer connections between people, businesses, and nations. While proponents argue that it drives progress, critics highlight its drawbacks, raising important questions about its overall impact. I believe that while globalization has numerous benefits, its adverse effects cannot be dismissed, and those who critique it contribute to necessary checks on its excesses.

On the one hand, globalization has brought tremendous economic and social progress. Globalization has transformed the world into an increasingly interconnected society where ideas and goods move freely across borders. It has opened up international trade, enabling countries to access market, technologies, and goods that were previously unavailable. For example, developed countries are European Union countries such as Germany, France, and others is the best example for globalization. European Union countries liberalized trade and removed customs barriers. Thus, they developed. Additionally, globalization has facilitated cultural exchange, enhancing mutual understanding and breaking down prejudices. Platforms like social media and international travel have made it easier for individuals to share ideas and learn from diverse cultures.

On the other hand, critics argue that globalization has widened the gap between the rich and the poor. While multinational companies earn huge profits, much of the wealth remains concentrated in the hands of a few. Workers in low-income countries often face poor working conditions and low wages. Additionally, small local businesses may struggle to compete against large international companies, leading to job losses and social inequality. Immigrants find it difficult to adapt to their new environment. Many people who are working or studying in other countries find it challenging to interact with locals because of the language barrier and feel isolated. For example, a recent survey by California University found that over 30% of students from other countries are bullied daily because of their color.

In conclusion, globalization has both positive and negative impacts. While it has improved living standards for many, it has also increased inequality. Governments should take active steps to ensure that globalization works for everyone equally, not just a selected few.
