In recent years, there has been growing concern about increasing rates of obesity caused by the consumption of unhealthy food and drinks. Therefore, some people believe that governments should impose a tax on such products. I partially agree with this approach.
To begin with, nowadays there is a wide range of unhealthy food and drinks, such as sausages, chips, fast food and soft drinks. When people regularly consume such products, they may develop various serious health problems and become addicted to these foods. Additionally, not everyone is sure that these products are prepared using healthy ingredients and proper methods. That is why, government should impose a tax on unhealthy food, which increase its price and dicourage people from consuming these products frequently. A good example of this is that if the prices of unhealthy food increase, individuals may stop wasting a large amount of money on such products. Instead, they may realise that they should spend this money on heathier and cheaper food.
On the other hand, it should be considered that imposing a tax on unhealthy food and drinks may make little difference for some people. They may consume these foods because they enjoy their taste, while high prices may create financial difficulities for low-income families. Moreover, obesity is caused by not only unhealthy products but also by a lack of physical activity. From my perspective, governments should make healthy foods more affrodable and raise public awareness with various ways instead of imposing a tax.
In conclusion, although imposing a tax on unhealthy food may encourage people to spend more money on healthier alternatives, it could also create financial difficulties for low-income families. Therefore, I believe that governments should adopt other measures, such as making healthy food more affordable and raising public awareness.
