Some people claim that governments and big businesses need to incorporate their resources to solve various environmental problems. While others support the idea of making specific people responsible for that. I tend to partially agree with both points of view. Mobilization of companies and governments can either be beneficial or detrimental in the process of bettering nature.
Governments and big companies should work together on environmental issues, because both sides of this collaboration could use their power and opportunities to help environment in the most possible effective way. For example, in the US there are such initiatives that oriented to decreasing emissions of big companies with a support system from the government itself. Besides of that, the company working on environmental sustainability is able to stand out among others in a positive way, it can help to get public support and attract new customers.
On the other hand, governments and big companies should rely on individual specialists, which professional field is related to reversing environmental damage. Individuals work on environmental problems with objective approaches. Since it’s the field that they constantly work on, they’re only interested in completing the job effectively. While cooperation of government and larger companies is complicated to have the same level of objectivity, because each side of parties has own benefits and vision, when it comes to solving environmental issues. It tends to lead to conflict of their interests in the process of fighting disasters. Also during the projects between governments and companies, there’s chance to neglect small companies. It can develop inequality, while they’re also responsible for protecting environment, and they play own role in influencing the economy. So it’s a must to engage all businesses to this process, not considering their sizes. For example, in Russia small households don’t usually take part in environmental projects, because the government provides subsidies only for bigger companies in this sphere.
In conclusion, this essay supports both sides of the argument. I advocate for a middle ground between the idea of engaging individuals and cooperating governments and big businesses in the process of solving environmental problems.
