Band 5+: Governments spend millions of dollars each year on their space programmes. Most recently, Mars is the focus of scientists’ attention. Some people think this money would be better spent on dealing with problems closer to home. Do you agree or disagree?

The annual amount of money spent on space science in countries is considerable. However, some individuals are against this approach. In my opinion, focusing on human life on Earth is far more important than exploring space. In this essay after discussing the possible reasons for some governments’ decisions, it will be briefly explained why it is not the best idea.

It is often said that exploring space is a long investment. Since the earth’s condition is worsening because of human activities, in the future it may be infeasible for humans to live on it. For instance, global warming is one of the most critical problems that we are facing now and none of the solutions has been working in the expected way. In conclusion, governments are trying to find a new answer to the unsolvable obstacles.

On the other hand, the ones who are against the idea argue that spending resources on space is not as important as our life on Earth. As it is clear, people are struggling with their daily lives in many countries, and it seems to be a waste of time to look too far to find answers to the problems. For instance, poverty and wars are two of the most important problems that can be resolved by spending enough money and attention. In addition, by focusing more on the already founded remedies like recycling and manufacturing eco-friendly products, we will be able to overcome the existing problems.

In summary, although space science may be a way to solve issues in the future, it should not be prioritised. Daily problems that people are dealing with now have to be solved quickly instead of searching for answers in space.
