Imagine, when you open your eyes from a wonderful sleep, and find yourself being captive, unable to breathe and see. Eventually, end your life under the suppression due to lack of oxygen. It is suffocating, isn’t it? I believe that the feeling of being limited inside a narrow space and unable to breathe is one of the nightmares of many people, but do you know, this scenario is happening to many sea creatures everyday.
Good morning, my respectful audience, it is my honour to deliver my speech to you today. I’m standing here to defend the right of flora and fauna to live. Yes, simply just to live. How many animals have gone extinct due to human behaviours? According to a research centre in the United States of America, in the last 500 years, human activity is known to have forced 869 species to become extinct. Hence, humans should be aware of how their tiny actions and attitudes will contribute to the destruction of animals.
Firstly, every individual should not underestimate their self concept of how they can affect the environment. For instance, by littering plastic at the seaside. People might think that just plastic, but do you know it can simply bring a life away? Seagulls might think it is a food and eat it, but ended up choked by the plastic. If the wind brings the plastic into the sea, fishes and many other sea creatures might be trapped and hurt by the plastic. Individual’s ignorance will result in devastating consequences and hence we need to be mindful of the effects that might be caused by our actions.
Secondly, leaders should be open minded as to accept the fact that our earth is experiencing irreversible damage. Hence, starting to promote actions that can prevent our mother Earth from perishing. Many individuals have not realised that if we continue our act, earth’s resources are no longer sufficient for our daily use. Barack Obama once said, “We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it.” We should be aware that now is the best time to reverse the impact we cause to the earth. Hence, leaders will be the significant factor to facilitate actions in order to sustain the environment as they are the primary influence to the people. For example, holding campaigns with an environmental sustaining purpose, educating students the importance of recycling and acknowledging the fact that earth is being destroyed ,to stimulate and evoke the spirit of protecting the earth.
Last but not least, it’s never too late to start. Elon Musk once said, “The first step is to establish that something is possible; then probability will occur.”, never try , never know. Thus, we need to be passionate to save our world rather than contributing nothing to the world. We need to know that if we do not preserve our world,our future generations won’t be able to observe the beauty of the earth that we now possess. We need to be conscious that we only have one earth, hence one chance, if she is destroyed, we will be destroyed too. We reap what we sow. Hence, let us be united to save the world. Thank you.
