Band 7+: how robots can help people and what problems arise in the way of their development

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Texts on how robots can help people and what problems arise in the way of their development. The first two texts express the same point of view and discuss the benefits of robots, while the third text describes methods aimed at improving the functionality of robots.

In the first text, the author believes that robots will be able to perform dangerous work instead of people, as well as replace them in production. Robots will influence the sphere where they will work together with people. Previously, robots were only in science fiction, but today they play an important role in engineering, help people with household chores and move around the surface of Mars. However, robots are still far from fully integrating into our world, because first we need to solve the problems of creating them. Since a robot is a machine that interacts with the outside world, makes decisions depending on it and performs any actions, robots must have sensor devices that will allow them to receive information. Robots also need drives and mechanisms that allow them to interact with the environment.

In the second text, the author says that today robotics is actively developing and has found application in industry, medicine, science, the army and other fields. This trend will only intensify, and even more widespread use of robots is expected in the future. A robot is a machine that is capable of performing various tasks. Today, robots are finding their application in industry, allowing automation of production, increasing its efficiency, reducing time and reducing waste. Robots are also used in science to explore hard-to-reach or dangerous places, such as underwater depths, outer space or radiation zones.

In the third text, the author tells us that models are already being created today that will allow robots to interact better with the environment and understand humans better. Natural language serves as a rich source of abstractions for large language models (LLMs), enhancing their performance in coding, planning, and robotics. MIT researchers have developed three neurosymbolic frameworks — LILO, Ada, and LGA — leveraging natural language to synthesize code, facilitate AI planning, and guide robotic tasks. LILO integrates standard LLMs with Stitch algorithm to generate comprehensively documented abstractions for coding tasks. Ada, inspired by Ada Lovelace, constructs libraries of useful plans for household chores and gaming, while LGA focuses on creating representations for robotic tasks by translating natural language task descriptions into actionable abstractions, facilitating robots’ interaction with their environment.

My opinion about robots is that they are a powerful tool for automating and improving various areas of life. Robotics opens up broad prospects in the field of industry, medicine, science and other industries, helping to solve complex problems, increase efficiency and reduce risks for humans. However, it is important to remember that with the development of robotics, new ethical and social issues arise that require careful attention and discussion.
