If people getting too old to live on their own they can move to a home for senior citizens where medicine staff watches after them. Depending on their situation these homes are payed from the framily or the state. In my opinion, the state should care about elderly citizens in general, especially if they have no family anymore and were working for the state during their work life.
Many elderly suffer physical and/or psycholgic impairings. Additionally, their former closest partner, family member or even friends no longer live with them together. Therefore, there is no help for them available during daily routines. The governement can help these people to support them by moving to homes where assisted living is provided. However, the high amount of monthly costs possibly can go beyond their pension. That is why I would support the idea to reduce costs with federal help by granting them a discount if they can proof a minimum time period as citizen as well as residential who payed for instance over at least 10 years taxes to the state.
Besides old people who need help becauce of a necessary medical treatment, there were also elderly who are in a good mental and physical health. Reasons to move together with other old people can include personal interest in socializing or a higher level of comfort. These motives are more likely special wishes which go beyond a basic care. Nevertheless, also these people should get the opportunity to live in nursery homes. However, because space is often limited for these people who really need daily help, the former should take over the full cost with the help of their family.
All in all, living situations in communal residences for elderly could present a better alternative to live alone and therefore in a higher danger for their physical or mental health. To involve the state partly if there are special needs and acquirements proven is in my opion a good way to treat every citizen in the same way. Especially, if they had helped to build up the state by paying their taxes.
