Noise pollution due to traffic is a huge issue in urban areas all over the globe. Over population is one of the main cause. However, environmental friendly vehicles could be introduced to overcome these, Both causes and solutions are discussed further.
Nowadays, increasing noise pollution is a devastating challenge in mega cities. Due to increasing population of the globe, people need a way to transport. As a result, the total number of vehicles in urban areas increase rapidly. Moreover, this leads to traffic in some parts of the mega cities. For example, a recent study revealed that number of vehicles in Manhattan, New York were increased by 178% in the last 3 years, which leads a huge concern about traffic. Another reason for increasing traffic is small or narrow roads in some locations. As a result of this issue, very big concern for traffic occurs. For example, the main bridge connecting New Ranip, Ahemdabad from Vastrapur, Ahemdabad is only about 25 meters wide, a research recently showed that on a daily basis about 20000 vehicles use that bridge; i.e approx, 420 every half hour. Furthermore, a study showed that a normal human being honks atleast 30 times daily, out of which 20 times when he/she is stuck in a traffic jam.
On the other hand, there are many solutions to these. Firstly, eco friendly vehicles such as bicycle or a skateboard is a great way to prevent the issue. A T.V. report by a MIT student in 2019 showed that this particular method could reduce traffic by 30% if proper awareness is raised by the government. Second solution is to build bridges or widen the roads for better traffic control in metropolitan cities, For example, Mumbai also known as the city of flyovers, solved 18% of its traffic on the main road just by constructing bridges and working of the condition of roads.
