While many people suggest that art classes should be optional for learning and we are to give more attention to maths and sciences, others believe that art should be mandatory for children. Whilst exact sciences can be extremely helpful in finding a future job, this essay agrees that art cannot be excluded from school programs.
Taking into consideration rapid advancement of technology in the modern world, fundamental knowledge of mathematics and science may provide a more stable income and advantages while choosing a future career. Since we live in a digital era, employers are eager to pay more to people who have skills like programming, data analysis, etc. And having obtained such knowledge at school gives children a head-start in technical areas, which, in turn, makes their future college and job applications more appealing to recruiters. As a result, students are more likely to get a job faster.
Whilst mathematics and science are important in a child’s up-bringing, I believe that art classes are also essential, since they help develop our emotional intelligence and soft skills. Having studied arts, architecture or literature in childhood, students are more likely to treat others’ emotions with respect, since art is closely linked to people’s moods and emotions. Not only is every piece of art connected to a certain era, they also bear a history of the author’s life and character. Learning these, in turn, gives children a better understanding of human nature and feelings. As a result, students become more emotionally intelligent and gain soft skills essential for future careers.
In conclusion, although in a digital era skills in science and mathematics do seem more competitive, we should still pay attention to benefits brought by knowledge of art, since it raises awareness and conscientiousness in young generations.
