Modern nations see economic and financial prosperity as one of the key objectives they should be aiming at; but, on the contrary, some parts of our society raise their concerns about how we are undermining many essential societal values in favor of material gains. Personally, I am more inclined toward prioritizing economic goods, and I consider them to be more important.
On the one hand, there is an issue with countries hyper-fixating on the expansion of wealth, and they have a tendency to ignore a wide variety of problems that occur in our modern age. People are prone to developing ignorance toward many crucial aspects of our lives and the issues linked to them, such as ecological crises, cultural preservation, and corruption. Large industrial companies working with various classes of natural gases and performing fuel combustion usually neglect the negative effects of excessive carbon and fluorine emissions, and they might even lobby against any policies attempting to limit the release of those chemicals. Therefore, we can see that large companies may not pay attention to many vital matters when they put self-enrichment above everything else.
On the other hand, the development of the economy is a determining factor in many aspects of our lives, and it can even determine the existence of a country in the first place. Since money is the key resource in conducting various essential processes like the development of proper infrastructure, urban planning, and supplying one’s nation with basic needs like electricity, water, and heating. A financial crisis is one of the worst-case scenarios that could occur, since access to many indispensable services is often life-determining. Recession leads to a threat of mass unemployment, starvation, and the downfall of society. Thus, sustaining a healthy economy is of great importance.
In conclusion, I believe economic prosperity brings numerous gains to people’s lives by both providing services of an utmost importance, and producing additional commodities, which by itself trumps the downsides of it.
