It is argued that there should be the same educational opportunities in both men and women. From my perspective, I totally do not agree with this idea. This essay will discuss several reasons why admitting equal numbers of students based on gender in every major is impractical.
To commence with, both male and female students are an equal proportions in all courses, which seems be really unfeasible. Number students depends on the quantity of applications that schools receive. If a university tries to fill all courses by an equal numbers of students depend on genders, it would be enough applicants of each gender. In fact, many courses are more popular with one gender than another because they require specific skills and knowledge.Nursing, for instance, is a major which tends to attract a more number of female applicants, so it is difficult to fill fifty percent of male students on vacancies. Therefore, trying to have an equal number of students of each gender is impractical.
Apart from the practical concerns as I mentioned above, I also believe that it is unfair to base admission to university majors on genders. In other words, universities should continue to select the best applicants according to their performance or qualifications. In this way, both male and female candidates would strike to achieve their goals and get higher grades to prepare for their higher education in the future. For example, if a female student who is the best candidate of one university is rejected in favor a male with fewer qualifications or lower grade to ensure the equal percentage of genders, it is wrong and inequal for her efforts and provokes critical views of this situation.
To recapitulate, universities should choose students based on merits rather than genders because of the impracticability and inequality of this method.
