Band 7+: In many cities the use of video cameras in public places is being ...

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, using video cameras is popular in order to reduce crime; however, some individuals believe that their freedoms are restricted by these measures. I strongly believe that the advantages of the camcorders outweigh the drawbacks.

The increase in crime has negative effects on living. The more contemporary the technology is, the more dangerous the lawbreakers are. In order to protect people, CCTV plays an important role in reducing the rate of crime. For instance, children can stand in the eyesight of camcorders when they feel that their safety is being threatened by strangers. Moreover, the video cameras not only warn the villains but also support and help police in investigations. They can search for background scenes and saved data to quash the verdicts.

Despite the benefits of the camcorders, they also have some drawbacks. Some individuals feel uncomfortable when they are under surveillance. They think that they are monitored and become unpleasant to go out. In addition, CCTV can become a tool of illegal actions rather than the main purpose of reducing crime. For example, sensitive information can be used for extortion if it falls into the wrong hands.

In conclusion, the camcorders have both benefits and disadvantages. Therefore, the advantages that protect citizens’ lives and limit the possibility of lawbreaking prevail over the drawbacks of video cameras.
