Traffic jam has become the common problem in all the urban areas. As a result, we are noticing significant increase in travel time and pollution. This essay will explore why many metro cities are facing the traffic issue and propose the viable measures to address this pressing issue.
This paragraph will state the reasons of traffic congestion. The main reason for traffic congestion is the use of the private vehicles. Most of the people prefer the personal vehicle for transportation, as it is extremely convenient than the public transportation. As a result, number of vehicles on the streets have increased, which has led to traffic jams in urban areas. Not only private cars provide convenience, but also very time efficient, and for that reason it has become the primary choice for people. Moreover, metro cities have noticed the trend of migration of people from small towns. Hence, governments are developing new infrastructure, but at the same time roads are becoming more narrow. Thus, causing the issue of traffic congestion.
Nevertheless, with an appropriate plan even these problems can be dealt with. The solution that is proving successful in many area is park and ride scheme. So, as a part of this scheme governments are providing the free parking at the border of the metro areas and running the public shuttles every 10 mins to a downtown. Therefore, governments can control the traffic congestion issue in urban area. A survey conducted by Oxford University has mentioned that cities that have implemented park and ride schemes have seen 30 percent reduce in private vehicles. Furthermore, governments can improve the quality of public transport and reduce the travel time. As a result, more people will be influenced to take public transport, which will significantly reduce the traffic in urban areas.
