Nobody would deny that the population is increasing across the world day by day, and this issue is seen as one of the crucial matters in recent decades. What’s more, today, it is witnessed people living in the countryside are settling in urban areas, therefore; the population in the rural areas is diminishing. I seem to believe that this issue can be seen as a not only positive but also negative development due to some reasons.
On the one hand, as people who live in rural areas continue to move to metropolitan cities, like Istanbul, London or NYC, this can contribute to financial growth and sectoral growth in these cities thanks to this labour force, which eventually leads to flourishing countries’ economies. Especially, given the lack of employees in some major urban cities and that is why calling for immigrants from other countries, these movements are able to create positive results for these cities. For instance, the German government announced a new plan to employ new skilled- employees to attract major cities because of the scarcity of employees, by doing this they hope that overcome labour difficulties.
On the other hand, as rural people are moving to some cities, this may result in several negative consequences. For one thing, for agriculture, people ought to continue to live in their countryside. This necessity is essential not only for sustainable agriculture but also preserving for the natural landscape because, without them or as decreased populations in these areas, we would observe a scarcity of vegetables and fruits cultivated by rural people finally damaging this fertile soil and even landscape.
To sum it up, in spite of the fact that we can enjoy some merits of people living in rural areas moving to cities, this has some demerits, as well. That is why governments take into account these movements and should take some precautions to strike a balance between negative and positive results.
