Band 7+: Traditional cultures will inevitably be lost as technology develops. Technology and traditional culture are incompatible. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is said that due to technological advancements traditional cultures will be lost in the future. In addition, it is said that technology and local traditions cannot be exist at the same time. I totally agree with this line of thought. This essay will provide reasonable arguments for my perspective and also present a contrary view that others might have in society.

To begin with, traditional ways of living life will be lost as technology evolves for several reasons. The first and foremost reason is that change is the only constant thing in life. People move from one lifestyle to another as technology develops because these advancements make life easier and more comfortable. For example, in the past people used to cook food with the help of woods and charcole, but now individuals use LPG or electric stoves. Therefore, it is human tendency to switch from one thing to another as time evolves.

Secondly, whenever new technological developments are made, people often forget their traditional arts. Every community has its own unique form of arts, such as clothing or music, but developments replace them with new alternative methods. For instance, the Indian government has been promoting ancient fabric “Khadi” from past few years, but they are unable to achieve their goals because people prefer new synthetic clothes, which are easy to wash, maintain and cheaper.

On the other hand, one part of society might think that local traditions and cultures are compatible because they think preservation of cultures is totally dependent upon the willingness of the public. If a person is well connected to their roots, they might not change their lifestyles regardless of new inventions. There are some communities and tribes around the world who are still stick to their traditions.

In conclusion, although some individuals might believe that technology and traditional values are compatible because it is totally dependent on the willingness of a community to protect their culture, I am of the opinion that as technology enhances people gradually forget their cultures because new innovation make life more convenient, so people adopt them and they also prefer new methods instead of old ones.
