One of the most controversial topics of today is whether moving from villages to big cities is a good or bad trend. In my opinion, although moving to a city brings certain individual benefits, it is predominantly a negative development for society.
On the one hand, relocating to cities offers better personal opportunities. Major cities serve as economic hubs, providing modern healthcare, prestigious universities, and high-paying jobs. For young people, moving to a metropolis helps them escape limited local work and secure careers in business or technology. For instance, many rural graduates move to big cities to work in corporate offices that are non-existent in small villages.
On the other hand, this continuous urban influx creates severe problems. Firstly, as the younger workforce leaves, the rural economy suffers greatly, leading to a drop in agricultural production and the decay of small towns. Secondly, major cities become overcrowded. This surge causes heavy traffic congestion, housing shortages, and environmental pollution, which lowers the overall quality of life for all residents.
In conclusion, while rural-to-urban migration provides personal financial growth, the overall impacts on society are overwhelmingly negative. Governments should invest in regional infrastructure to create opportunities in small towns, ensuring that people can thrive without abandoning their hometowns.
