Moving out of the parent’s home after completing school, opting to live alone or with a friend has become a trend for teenagers in many countries. In my opinion this is a positive development as teenagers get to acquire essential life-skills and get more privacy as well as freedom.
Undoubtedly, living alone for teenagers might be challenging as some of them are not mature enough and can be irresponsible in some aspects of life. Without parental guidance they can make mistakes with adjusting their budget, managing with house chores or paying bills on time. However, dealing with such obstacles is beneficial as adolescents learn to manage their own responsibilities, which was usually managed by parents for them. Additionally, moving out of the parents’ house helps with developing life skills needed for the adult life. Problem solving skills and decision making become stronger, since teenagers have to deal with unexpected challenges, such as a broken home appliance or missed bill pay. Without relying on parental help, they must figure out solitons like calling a technician or figuring out ways of budgeting. Therefore, despite facing some challenges when living alone, teenagers are able to get valuable knowledge for adult life.
Moreover, living independently gives teenagers more freedom of choice and privacy, compared to living with parents. Adolescents can make their own decisions on how to organize their space. They can choose any design for their home, or make their own daily routine without adapting to their family. This freedom allows them to explore their interests, find suitable lifestyle and express themselves without needing a permission from parents. Living alone also allows young adults to reflect and relax in their personal space, which can be very important for mental health. In today’s demanding world with growing competitiveness in work and study areas, having a spot to relax is very essential. Thus, independent life allows teenagers to experience more control over their life and environment.
In conclusion, moving out of parents’ homes in teenage years allows gain practical life skills and live with more freedom and fewer restrictions. In my opinion this is a positive development because this makes teenagers independent.
