Band 6+: In many countries, children and teenagers are committing more crimes. Why is this happening? How should they be punished?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is true that crime rates among children and teenagers are rising across many countries. This social problem is due to two main reasons, and in my opinion, punishment for these young offenders should be flexible.

The increasing number of crimes committed by children and teenagers is attributed to two main reasons. The first reason is a lack of parental supervision. In some modern families, both parents rarely have time to keep an eye on their children’s activities, resulting in a lack of knowledge and misbehavior. The second reason is that children tend to imitate peers around them. Teenagers are highly influenced by their peers, and, in some circumstances, committing crimes is seen as a means of achieving respect, leading to misunderstanding and being a burden on society.

The punishment for these young criminals should be flexible. These lawbreakers should be sent to reform schools if their wrongdoing is not serious. For example, if a teenager steals a small amount of money from his friends, it is better to send him to a special school where he can learn to distinguish between right and wrong rather than imprisoning him. However, those who commit serious crimes, such as violent attacks or murder, should receive severe punishment. These criminals should be sent to prison for a long time, which would deter them from committing crimes again and ensure the safety of other citizens.

In conclusion, a lack of parental supervision and the bad behavior of those around them are mainly responsible for the increasing number of young criminals, and these young offenders should be treated according to the seriousness of their wrongdoing.

Public celebrations such as national holidays, cultural festivals, and public events are common in many countries. While some people argue that governments should allocate the money spent on these occasions to more essential sectors, I disagree with this view. I believe that public celebrations provide significant social, cultural, and economic benefits that justify their cost. […]

Many countries thought that children have to do homework in their free time while other say children should do more outdoor activity. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is an ongoing debate about whether students should be given homework every day or have more free time after school. Although homework can provide additional practice, which can be helpful for students’ progress, I believe that school hours are intended for education, while time after school should be used to pursue children’s own interests. The government spends about 220 million pounds a year supporting museums and galleries in the UK, and a similar amount subsidizing the visual and performing arts. This is a huge sum to spend on minority interests, and the money would be better spent on more important things. It should be up to the people who enjoy cultural attractions to pay for them. What are your views?

Annually, the UK government spends a large amount of money on supporting the cultural and artistic activities. Some people argue that the government should allocate funds to more critical areas, while the cost of cultural entertainment should be paid by individuals. In my view, I don’t fully agree with this perspective. On the one hand, […]
