In recent years, there has been a growing number of fast-food consumers all around the world. One main problem this causes is that people eat less traditional food. Personally, I believe this to be worrying because it might lead to a loss in culture, and an unhealthy diet.
One of the main negative points about this is that the popularity of fast-food may diminish parts of a culture. People tend to resort to these restaurants when they are hungry rather than eating at their local area. As a result, many local-food based chains would have to shut down due to the lack of customers. This causes original recipes to be forgotten, which may have detrimental effects on local culture. For example, shop owners in Cambodia recently, tend to invest more in a fast-food chain because of its popularity amongst Khmer teenagers. This could lead to fellow owners following suit and switching to the same path.
Another problem is it leads consumers to an unhealthy diet. Fast-food predominantly contains sugar and oil, which if over-consumed may lead to build up of fat in our body. If not taken care of, many hazardous diseases can be contracted. For instance, people eating many sugary or oily dishes will absorb these substances into their body. A main health issue that will occur from this is overweight. Compared to local-food, which is considered more health-friendly, they tend to discard harmful produce and adopt safe ingredients instead. For example, Vietnamese food revolves around vegetables. Eating such food would have positive effects to our body, while also prolonging a healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion, the rapid expansion of fast-food consumers compared to local-food are concerning. This raises many issues that need to be addressed such as fading away traditional culture, and an unhealthy lifestyle.
