Across the world, young individuals are faced with challenges of securing permanent jobs after graduation, which can be because of insufficient experience and limited employment opportunities. These problems can be mitigated by providing internship and expansion of work sectors.
Nowadays, employers seem to be interested in employing people who are already knowledgeable in a particular field. As a result, fresh graduates are faced with difficulties in securing a job. During interviews, when it is observed that an individual has not worked in a related organization, they may be considered not qualified. Thus, it becomes a challenge to discuss further on the employment potentials. Additionally, the recruiting companies in the countries may have few vacancies for a position. This will reduce the number of applicants that can be hired even if all criteria for the position are met. For example, a person who passed both oral and written interviews may not be offered an appointment because the vacant positions are few.
To proffer a solution to the problem associated with the gap in experience, internship programs can be introduced. This allows young graduates to work in respect to the field of study after school, under the supervision of experienced professionals. When they apply for jobs after completion of the program, they can get a recommendation confirming their experience to present to the hiring company. Furthermore, the government and other private organizations should assist with the expansion of work sectors. If there is a need to employ more individuals, it will be difficult to deny a person a job because of limited positions. For instance, in the health sector, there is always a need to recruit due to the increasing health demands.
In conclusion, although lack of experience and few job opportunities contribute to the reasons why young people face difficulties in securing permanent jobs, I believe that a program that allows exposure to related discipline after graduation and creation of more jobs by the government will help fill these gaps.
