Obesity in children is increasingly becoming a problem in many countries. The primary causes of being overweight are prevalence of fast food and a sedentary lifestyle which can be solved through government intervention and encouraging an active lifestyle.
One of the major contributors of excessive weight of unhealthy meals that are very readily available. These foods contain high levels of sugars, fats and calories. For instance, more and more sugary drinks and junk foods are highly supplied due to affordable cost and high demand. Additionally, young kids are mostly inactive because they spend too much time on the screen or on formal studies which are highly emphasized. As a result, lack of exercise leads to the build up of fat in the body.
To tackle these problems, the government ought to discourage the intake of fast food. This can be done by high taxation of the meals and educating the parents on the importance of healthy cooking. This will discourage the purchase of expensive fast foods and also inform guardians of the essentiality of feeding their kids home cooked meals. Moreover, schools and home activities should be incorporated to the daily routine particularly in schools where the students spend most of their time.
In conclusion, obesity is attributed to unhealthy eating and lazy habits. It can be reduced through making it hard to buy unhealthy foods and advocating active living among the children.
