The increase in remote opportunities has led to increase in energy consumption as workers use significant amount of their appliances throughout the day. Whereas, the corporate spaces remain uninhabited. This issue could impact energy sustainability and the overall environment.
Employees prefer to work from home because, it gives them the advantage of not travelling to office everyday. This can help them save their travel expenses and gives them the option to work at their own space within their comfort zone. The rise in remote work gained popularity after the 2020 covid pandemic, where the necessity to remain home was crucial. Although, this remote setting is convenient for many individuals, it can cause issues to the overall environment and can cause discomfort to everyone.
While working from their comfort space, employees tend to lose track of their energy consumption. Their electric usage becomes more whereas, in a corporate space the energy usage is comparatively less. This may lead to various problems. For example, the usage of air conditioners from every employee’s home are more compared to a single office building. We can prevent this by educating individuals on energy sustainability and provide them knowledge regarding eco friendly alternatives. This can cause significant change in the usage of electronic items and could cause a much lower impact on the surrounding.
In conclusion, we must encourage staffs to use less energy and teach them about preservation of energy while in a remote setting. We could influence them to use more environment friendly option for their houses to reduce the impact.
