In many Nations, people are more frequently opting to live alone. While living alone can provide one with freedom and foster self reliance, it can also leave people stranded and without support. Lack of security is also a detriment of living alone. This essay will discuss the benefits and disadvantages of living alone.
Freedom happens to be a significant benefit of living alone. This is because such people live free of constraints created by the presence of multiple individuals. For example, a greater freedom of space and time can be observed in bachelors and spinsters who are living alone. Living alone also pushes people in conditions beyond their comfort zone making them more self reliant. For instance, during my stay in Istanbul, I was constantly pushed in challenging situations which caused me to paradoxically evolve in ways better suited for survival. Overall, freedom and greater self reliance can be seen as the greatest advantages available to people living alone.
On the other hand, people who live alone lack the support that is constantly available by those who choose otherwise. Majorly, support provided by co-dwellers could be financial or emotional. This can help mitigate certain untoward situations. For example, children from joint families appear to be more confident than children from broken families. A lack of security might also be experienced by lone-dwellers. Evolution states that strength exists in numbers, as evident from the social nature of humans. This makes many people seek companionship in comrades and relationships. All in all, the inaccessibility of a viable support system and lack of security dissuade many people from living alone.
In conclusion, while more individuals seek to live alone because of the freedom it provides and self reliance it fosters, it might not necessarily be a wise choice. This is especially clear by the lack of support and security for people choosing to live alone. Hence, this essay has successfully discussed the advantages and disadvantages of living alone.
